This new EP is the bands fourth EP but the first of three to be released throughout 2021. The band, made up of Rena Lovelis, Nia Lovelis and Casey Moreta, rose to fame in 2015 when they supported Australian pop punk band 5 Seconds of Summer on both their first and second headline tours.
The new EP is the perfect summer chill playlist, with a song for every holiday moment, from summer romance to letting go of toxic friends. Let’s get into it!
“Problems”.
The first song on the EP is the title track and the first single the band released from the new EP, “Problems”. Frontwoman Rena Lovelis told PopCrush, “'Problems' is such a cool song to us because when you're first listening to it, it sounds like just a cheeky, flirty, fun song. When I was writing it, though, I felt almost as if I was attracted to peoples' red flags. The attraction I'm singing about in the song is really based off of seeing those red flags and romanticizing how detrimental that might be to my psyche. I feel like I was in a really lost place when I wrote this, always confusing red flags for an invitation to be with someone.”
“Breaking Up with a Friend”.
This sassy break up song represents the end to a toxic friendship, which is a refreshing change to a relationship song. Which don’t get us wrong, of course we love a sassy break up song, but as the lyrics in this catchy new track say “lovers come and go like the weekend, it hurts so much more in the end, when you’re breaking up with a friend”. Anyone who has been through a friend break up will know that feeling of recognising the friendship you’re in is no longer healthy and that it’s a different type of heartbreak to breaking up with a partner.
“Dear Love”.
This song was the second single to be released before the release of the full EP. Which the band promoted on their Twitter page by telling fans, that for the entire month of June, any fan mail they receive would get a handwritten reply from them “in celebration of dear love’s recent release”. Dear Love is the relaxed break in the middle of the EP that isn’t overly emotional; it’s the perfect 4am summer song to listen to when the party has died down and the sun is starting to rise.
“Reflection”.
The last and personally underrated song on the EP, ‘Reflection, brings the EP to a close perfectly. It’s deep and meaningful lyrics, that battle self-image and the feeling of emptiness, mixed with the upbeat poppy music make this another song that is the perfect blend for wherever the day or night takes you this summer. Whether that’s partying all night long or sat on the beach watching the sun go down.
