Here at BuzzBeat, our New Year’s resolution for this year was to listen to more female and non-binary artists. We’ve discovered more of those artists in the last 6 months and found an array of songs for every mood. Of course, we wanted to share some of the incredibly talented artists we’ve been listening to with our lovely readers, so here is a list of some of the female and non-binary artists we’ve been listening to so far in 2021 (in no particular order).
Olivia O’Brien

First on our list, we have Olivia O’Brien’s new EP, Episodes: Season 1, which is the first of multiple EP’s she's releasing this year. This EP follows Olivia’s signature brand of depressed but hot, with a mix of sad songs and sassy upbeat, scream-at-the-top-of-your-lungs songs, for whichever mood you’re in. The EP also features an iconic collab with British rock band, Bring Me The Horizon, who’s vocals blend well with Olivia’s raspy and lyrical voice.

Peach Prc

A personal favourite of this year, is Australian singer/songwriter, Peach Prc. Peach rose to fame through video app TikTok back in 2020 and this year has already released two incredible singles. Her much awaited song “Josh” was released in February, after her 1.3 million TikTok followers couldn't get enough of the snippet that she posted to her page. More recently Peach released her newest single “Symptomatic”, which she describes as “I wrote this song about thinking you’re better when you’re actually just manic”.

Zoe Clark

Here at BuzzBeat we’ve discovered that the best place to find new and popular singers is, of course, TikTok. So our next discovery of 2021 is Zoe Clark and her songs “Last One Standing” and “Zero Feelings”. Zoe’s songs talk about being young and single and how you should enjoy it and not worry about people telling you that you need to be in a relationship to be happy. Her sassy lyrics mix well with her rich harmonies to give everyone some essential songs for the hot girl summer playlists.

Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato blessed the world (and our ears) with a new album in April this year, titled Dancing With The Devil: The Art of Starting Over, they may be controversial at times but Demi never fails us when it comes to their captivating vocals. This album has everything from emotional cry worthy songs to boppy feminist anthems, not forgetting their noteworthy collab with Ariana Grande, “Met Him Last Night”. This album is a mix of emotions and has a song for every mood and is definitely Demi’s most honest and authentic album yet.

Olivia Rodrigo

This list wouldn't be complete without the princess of pop and the second Olivia on our list, Olivia Rodrigo. The Disney Channel star made headlines with her first single “Driver's License” in January this year, when it was rumored the song was written about her Disney costar Joshua Bassett, who around the time was reportedly dating singer and actress Sabrina Carpenter. Olivia’s debut album Sour came out just a few months after her first heart-wrenching single and did not disappoint the legion of fans she had secured from her first release. Sour has everything from sassy sing-along-in-the-car-with-your-friends songs to heavy hearted crying-in-the-bathtub songs.

Ashnikko

Finally, we have someone who has dominated TikTok with their songs since 2019. American singer/songwriter Ashnikko released their hit “Slumber Party”, featuring Princess Nokia, earlier this year and has been one of TikTok’s most played songs of 2021. The sassy upbeat queer anthem is a must have for everyone's party playlist that will have everyone singing along.
