I discovered singer/songwriter Taylor Bickett, after reluctantly giving in to downloading TikTok, during lockdown last year. She was the first singer that I found on the app who’s music I connected with straight away and left me wanting to hear more of her honest and captivating originals.
I soon discovered her now boyfriend, Charlie Pittman, who is just as talented in both singing and songwriting, as Taylor. After following them both on social media for a while, I was so excited to finally get to hear them both sing live, at their show last Friday.
Taylor was first to grace the stage, after their talented support acts, Sophie Griffiths and Bertie Newman. The singer/songwriter sang a mix of her released originals and some new unreleased songs, with a personal favourite being “Central Park”. Her cool confidence, immaculate style and exquisite voice resembled that of Taylor Swift in her early pop era. Although she has a number of similarities to the superstar, Taylor is very much in her own league on the way to her very own stardom.
Charlie’s set followed, with another mix of released and unreleased originals, including his next single; “Friend’s Don’t Lie.” A personal favourite of mine was his early 2021 release, “If I’m Honest”, which he expressed on stage is about mental health which is a refreshing and meritorious topic from a male musician. Likewise, Charlie’s vocals mixed with his melodic songs had the audience entranced throughout.
Lastly, after his set, Taylor joined Charlie on stage to sing their first release together, “Pam and Jim”. As well as an unreleased sequel to that song, that’s ironically named after another tv/film couple, “Harry and Sally”. Their voices gel together perfectly and their chemistry radiates naturally through their performance, consequently making them a captivating duo.
You can check out “Pam and Jim” in the link below and both Charlie and Taylor’s Instagram accounts here. Thank you so much to Charlie and Taylor for inviting me to their first headline show!
